HAUS OF TROUT - FASHION FOR WEIRDOS

Haus of Trout is a fashion line for weirdos, made in Amsterdam from upcycled materials. Our pieces range from sizes L to 5XL and beyond.

The HoT collection is ever evolving, genderless, ageless, loud, queer and unique. Our pieces are meant to be worn in your everyday life, but add a touch of drama to the mundane. Our focus is on plus size fashion because fat people deserve to have weird and edgy clothing as much as thin people, but our designs are often worn by people of any body type. Anybody is welcome to shop here.

Haus of Trout is owned by me, Babet (she/her) I’m a gay woman in my 30s and I live in the center of Amsterdam with my wife Cat and our chihuahua Lola. I work from my studio on the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam Noord where I have a small container studio as part of the Treehouse creative community.

I’ve been sewing and designing since I was a kid and I love hunting for unique weird vintage items, so in 2022 I decided to build the fashion line that I wanted to see in the world. After selling at random markets here and there, I realised that if I wanted to reach the community I could truly connect with I needed to organise my own events. I started with a few smaller get-togethers and it grew into the Goblin Market. Building this community event has been the absolute joy of my life.

Haus of Trout is largely ran by me, I source materials, do all the sewing, the styling and the photography. My wife Cat is often involved with the organisational elements and the financial department, and she is occasionally my photography assistant. She also runs Meat_daughter, a zine about the queer macabre featuring short fiction, poetry and photography. We often collaborate on our projects and inspire each other to get weirder and freakier with our art.

I like to see Haus of Trout as a banner under which I do all of my creative work, from my fashion design and community organising to my textile art, photography, writing, and recently filmmaking. I would like to think this list of disciplines might grow in the coming years.

THE GOBLIN MARKET

The Goblin Market is a recurring queer maker market that takes place at Treehouse NDSM. We always have a colourful collection of people selling their art, ranging from fashion, zines and jewellery to art prints and ceramics. You can also have a variety of experiences like getting a tarot reading or a tooth gem, eating some delicious vegan food, seeing some of the art that’s always on display at Treehouse, and of course meeting your fellow weirdos. Entrance is always free.

As soon as I have a new market in the works, it will be announced on instagram

Want to sell at the Goblin Market?

Any queer maker can apply to sell. We do get more applications than we have room for, so we can never guarantee a spot. We aim to keep the line-up as varied and diverse as possible. It’s not first come first serve or anything, we just read all the applications and create a line-up that has as many different things as possible. The link to apply will be in our instagram linkinbio whenever applications are open.

We consider it a HUGE bonus if the vibe of your work fits any of the following: maximalist, bizarre, extravagant, cursed, perverted, somewhat upsetting, a little spooky, alienating to straight people, doing way too much, gives the queer community a bad name, makes your parents question where they went wrong.

COME VISIT THE STUDIO

Make a studio appointment! You can come shop the Haus of Trout collection in person in our studio at Treehouse NDSM in Amsterdam Noord. This way you can try on any piece you like, you can browse yourself or I can help you find something.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

Our studio is a 100% body positive environment. We will never tell you to dress “flattering”, it’s all about how fashion is supposed to make you feel; happy, beautiful and fully yourself. Haus of Trout is a queer owned business and we work with many queer, trans and gender non-conforming clients, you can be assured that we will always respect your gender identity, pronouns, terminology you use for your bodyparts, etc.

The studio is easily reachable by ferry, public transport, bike or car. It is even in a part of Amsterdam with plenty of very cheap parking.

Payment in the studio can happen with card, cash, or Tikkie.

Do you want a custom Haus of Trout piece?

Want something special just for you? We do custom pieces! I can also transform / customise / decoratively repair a piece from your wardrobe.

Some examples: adding fabric panels to your old denim jacket, turning an ill-fitting dress into a skirt with matching top, adding a panel to a shirt that’s too small for you, turning a cool bedsheet you thrifted into a dress, the only limit is our boundless imagination!

We make an appointment in the studio to take measurements, look at fabric options, etc. Of course this part is all free and without obligations! If you decide to go ahead, you pay 50% of the agreed on price now, and the other 50% when the piece is done. For simple pieces you can simply come collect the piece when it is done, for more complicated options we might schedule another fitting in between.

Always feel free to DM me about this on instagram or email me at hausoftroutvintage[at]gmail[dot]com, we can discuss what’s possible and schedule an appointment. This can also happen over video call.
